ServingServing

Serving alongside the leadership team of the church are a group of committed stewards, working to help the smooth running of the ministry, especially the Sunday services. Stewards work in small teams of two or three and are usually on duty once a month.

It is quite biblical for there to be leaders and stewards - a principle established by God in Acts 6:1-6. Stewards serve in practical tasks, releasing the leaders to be more fully concentrated on the ministry of the Word. When planting churches, Paul made sure that each new assembly had leaders and servants (sometimes called 'deacons') to help care for them. Some examples of this can be found in his letters to the churches: Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:8 and 10.

The main Sunday duties of the stewards at King's Church are outlined below:

1. To arrive at the church building no later than 9.45 am.

2. To make sure that the toilets have been cleaned before people arrive.

3. To assist in the preparation of the Communion or the refreshments, where necessary.

4. To make sure that the water machines are working and stocked with cups and to ensure that the pulpit has drinks.

5. To be at the entrance of the church to welcome people as they arrive from 10.00am: a friendly face to new people, answering any questions and, where applicable, letting them know the arrangements for Sunday School.

6. To assist in facilitating the Communion and/or the refreshments in the service.

7. To take the offering during the service, after which a steward should join one of the leaders in taking the offering away and making it secure. This should always be done in pairs.

8. During the service, to make sure that young children are best served and do not wander into the foyer or outside of the church building.

9. When the service is over, to vaccuum clean the carpet and to assist in the general “tidy up” of the building at the end.

10. To assist the pastor in anything else he might need during the service.

If you have been attending King's Church for a while and would like to join the stewarding team, please see one of the leaders. When we serve in ways like this, we are following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ (Mark 10:45) and it is a privilege to do so.
